Challenge
The key challenge was the difficult access to the site due to the wall being very close to the house, making the use of any type of machinery almost impossible. The homeowner wanted the existing concrete wall to stay in place, which meant the new wall had to be built up from the concrete base.
Results
The Flex MSE wall system was installed with minimal ground disturbance and avoided the need for heavy machinery. The project was completed efficiently in just two days. The wall was live planted with eco-sourced native plant species, offering a visually appealing and sustainable solution. The Goal
In Honeymoon Valley, Peria (the far north of New Zealand) a solution was needed to retain and stabilise a steep bank that ran up behind a house. The clay loam soil type in this area made the bank prone to slipping and eroding. Furthermore, being a hot north-facing slope it was difficult to establish vegetation.
The homeowner was looking for a soft facing wall system that would fit in with the house design and blend in with the natural surroundings in an aesthetically pleasing way. Unique Outdoor Spaces, a landscape design and construction company based in Auckland, was tasked with this project.
The Challenge

The Solution
This secluded and peaceful valley required something specialized, and with many options and designs being considered, Guenther from Unique Outdoor Spaces got in contact with Advance Landscape Systems, the New Zealand distributor for the Flex MSE wall system.
After discussing the challenge with our consultant Matthew Strachan, and running through some design scenarios, the Flex MSE wall system became the obvious choice for this project.
The Results
Flex MSE could be installed with minimal ground disturbance and without the need to use any heavy machinery. Along with the vegetating feature, this system ticked all the boxes for the client. Advance Landscape Systems delivered the bags pre-filled to site and the wall was then completed in just two days. The Flex MSE wall system could then be live planted with eco-sourced native plant species from the region.
